On Wednesday at the  CBCF’s 44th Annual Legislative Conference (ALC),
during Congressman Keith Ellison CBC-ALC session “Climate Change and
Communities of Color” the Hip Hop Caucus put forth that:

1. All Congressional Black Caucus members and the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation stop accepting Fossil Fuel money

2. That all organizations that purport to advance and help communities of color, (civil rights organizations, Human Rights Organizations, HBCUs. Faith Institutions, etc.) Divest from fossil fuels and invest in a clean energy future.

3. In the wake of the BP Oil Spill in the Gulf in 2010, and the Chevron refinery explosion in Richmond, CA in 2012 that sent upwards of 15,000 people to local hospitals complaining of respiratory distress, we ask that congress thru the leadership of the CBC hold those responsible for climate damages accountable.

4. The Congressional Black Caucus must put forth legislation that freezes all new fossil fuel exploration.

Congressman Keith Ellison accepted the challenge and stated not only would he ensure that he never take Fossil Fuel money but will work to encourage other Congressional Black Caucus members and the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation to stop accepting Fossil Fuel money.
